Fabriano Square Sketch Book

I'm really loving the book idea. I ordered this square book. But it had beige and light brown pages. It wasn't exactly what I wanted, I wanted white pages. But somehow it became the next book.

It's just a play of ink, shapes and colours.

My Watercolour Moleskine Sketch book.

A couple of years ago, I received a Moleskine watercolour sketchbook as a gift. Normally like to sketch and play in a square book. (I have used 32 square sketch books over the past 16 years). But during this year, looking for inspiration, I opened up the Moleskine and started making works. I had just picked up some new art toys to play with. A small tin of Art Graf watercolour graphite and a brown, dress makers water colour.
The process was not intentional, it was more of a playing and balacing act, with line, shapes and colours. At first the colour were limited, then small touches of colours were needed. I used my favorite crayons, Neo-color II, which can be used like a normal crayon, but also can be used with water, as they are water soluble.
Black micro Pilot pens also starting making fine lines and marks across the pages.
Some evolved into strange landscapes.
But all of the time, it was about making marks, playing with the materials and letting the images come from my subconscience. I worked with the TV on, and just made the first marks directly onto the pages.

Sketch Book colour experiments

Going back to the Sketch Book, is an important part of the artistic process. It helps me dream and imagine other works. Playing with materials and colour is so much fun!

Some images come from plants, space and randomly evolve from the playing process.

I love colour and try and explore different colour combinations.

Three abstract paintings on paper...

I'm also working on a series of abstract works on paper. These also are very random, a play of shapes, colours and marks over each page. Each one has some collage, acrylic paint and watercolour paint. "Composition 1" (15 x 15cm)
"Composition 2" (15x 15cm)
"Composition 3" (15 x 15cm), Sometimes you can see part of a landscape, perhaps some eggs, rock pools or patterns in the natural world. Click HERE, to see them in the Etsy shop.

New original, organic resin jewellery

I've started making some resin jewellery. I'm using a combination of materials including glass beads, glass pebbles, fake gold & silver leaf, swarovski crystals, nail art objects and mirror pieces.

I started by thinking and drawing. Collecting images that are balanced and can be transformed into jewellery.

These shapes have been haunting me for years.

These started out as telephone eye doodles (drawings you make while on the phone), and for many years they emerged into my paintings. During the silk painting years (1994-2003)  the flora from Australia started merging with these forms. For some reason Sturt's Desert Pea flower facinated me and lately the ying/yang forms have inspired me.

Organic sketches have filled my sketch books for years, and some of my icons have been in my artworks from over the past 30 years.

A rocket ship.

If you see something you like, but maybe want a different colour, just email me and we can have a chat about it. huercat@yahoo.com.au
